BRISHPATI DEV {ZEUS} also known as BRAHMANASPATI or JUPITER is the guru of Devas.
He is son of Rishi Angirasa (one of the saptrishi) and Suroopa according to Shiv Puran.
He has two brothers named Utathya and Samvartana.
He had 16 childern from his three wives Shuba, Tara and Mamata.
By performing penances on the banks of Prabhas Tirtha he attained his position as the Preceptor of Devas.
Lord SHIVA granted him this position as well as a most powerful position in Navgrahas.
Brishpati in Vedic Astrology is known Guru, Cura and Devaguru.
It is believed that the great Red Spot in planet Jupiter is the Piratti of Brishpati.
